L.A. Works Makes it Easy to Volunteer in Los Angeles
List a Project on Our Website -
Become a Partner Agency
Back To Main

L.A. Works offers four kinds of Project Listings on our website:

1. L.A. Works Managed Projects
These projects are listed on our project calendar on specific dates and are led by L.A. Works Project Leaders working in conjunction with your agency.  They typically occur on a regular schedule either once, twice, or four times a month, but can also be a one-time event. They generally are held on weekday evenings or weekends, and last from one to four hours.

Project Leaders act as liaisons between volunteers and your agency.  They will coordinate volunteers and work with your staff to ensure that the project runs smoothly, from start to finish!  Project Leaders receive special training through L.A. Works on how to manage volunteers and handle project logistics.

This is the best solution for your agency if you need a reliable source of volunteers on a recurring basis. We handle all the administrative aspects of providing you with volunteers. Most of the thousands of L.A. Works volunteers sign up to participate in these "episodic" volunteer activities. (Please note that you are likely to have different volunteers at each occurence of your project.)

If you are interested in setting up a regular L.A. Works Managed Project, please contact Gilbert Gonzales .  He will work with you to determine the parameters of the project, and will work to find a Project Leader to coordinate your project.

2. Community Service Partner Projects
These projects are listed on our project calendar for specific date(s) but do not have an L.A. Works Project Leader attached. A representative at your agency functions as the Project Leader and receives training in using our administrative website to track volunteer sign-ups, communicate with volunteers, print check-in sheets, and mark attendance. This sort of listing is great for "irregularly" scheduled projects, where you have a regular volunteer coordinator in charge of the volunteers and do not need an L.A. Project leader.
If you are accepted as a Partner for Managed Referral Projects, you'll be able to propose and post new projects directly through our website.  If you frequently wish to promote volunteer opportunities on our calendar, this option will make it easy for you.

It does however require a "point-person" at your agency that takes responsibility for the volunteers and posting the listings.  The training to use the system can be done over the phone and takes approximately 30 minutes. Please contact Gilbert Gonzales at to set up an appointment for training.

3. Calendar Referrals
These volunteer opportunities are listed on our Project Calendar on specific date(s) as a referral only. Volunteers are not able to sign up for your opportunity on-line at our website.  The details of the opportunity are listed on the website, and volunteers can click on a link indicating they are interested.  Our system will then send you an email expressing their interest.  It becomes the responsibility of your agency to correspond with the volunteer directly to coordinate signing them up and giving them project details.

4. Ongoing Referrals
Some agencies need volunteers on an open-ended basis. Your need doesn't have a specific date of occurrence, but you're looking to find volunteers who will make a long-term committment to your program.

These opportunities are listed on a separate page from the calendar as ongoing opportunities.  Volunteers can click on a link indicating they are interested. Our system will then send you an email expressing their interest. It becomes the responsibility of your agency to correspond with the volunteer directly to see how they fit your ongoing needs.

How can I become a partner and get my Volunteer Opportunities listed on the L.A. Works website?

  1. Is your agency already a Partner or Referral Partner on our website? Click here to browse and see if your agency is already registered as either a partner or referral partner.
  2. If your agency isn't registered, click here to become a Partner or Referral Agency. Fill out the four part application form. In the fourth part, give us as much detail as possible about what type of listing you'd like on our website (see the four types of Project Listings below).
  3. We will contact you as soon as possible to coordinate your listing and establish you as a partner with L.A. Works.
  4. L.A. Works Agency Partners must meet the following criteria:
    • Be an IRS designated 501(c)(3) non-profit, school or government entity.
    • Carry general liability insurance.
    • Not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sexual preference or national origin, age, marital or veteran status, or the presence of a non-related medical condition or disability.
