Age Minimum (with Adult) - 14, Minimum Age - 14+, Skill Category - N/A Verified Volunteers Level:

*TUNE UP TIME: Wheelchair Refurbishment

UCP Wheels for Humanity

What: Help refurbish and repair donated wheelchairs for those in need.

UCP Wheels for Humanity is a non-profit organization working to refurbish donated wheelchairs and hand-fit them for children and adults with disabilities including but not limited to cerebral palsy in developing countries. Wheels for Humanity receives donated wheelchairs on a daily basis from individuals, hospitals, and medical supply companies. Many in developing countries cannot afford proper equipment for people with disabilities to transport themselves and even if they could, the unpaved roads become a huge hindrance. UCP works with international agencies to identify communities that need such equipment and tailor the wheelchairs and other devices for mobility to accommodate each individual and each environment.
Volunteer Project:
Volunteers will disassemble, clean and lubricate, then reassemble wheelchairs using a variety of replacement parts. All skills necessary will be taught. Volunteers do more than just tighten screws and shine handlebars but also produce a valuable product that will change the life of someone whose physical disability has halted their capacity to get outdoors, interact with friends and family and contribute to the growth of their community. Be part of this amazing experience!

Volunteers will be working in a warehouse so proper attire is required.

  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Clothing you don't mind getting dirty
  • Volunteers should also bring a sack lunch

Minors: Any volunteer under the age of 18 will need to bring and have signed by a parent/guardian a Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors.

Accessibility: L.A. Works firmly believes that we strengthen the social fabric of our community by involving all in service. If you feel you need accommodations to participate in this project please email us at
