HOMEWORK TUTORS FOR CHILDREN 7-18
Help students improve their grades and their understanding of math, science, and reading. The Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley is looking for volunteer after school tutors. Students at the Club are required to complete homework assignments or read for an allotted time before they are allowed to participate in Club games and activities. There is not enough staff to make sure every child gets one-on-one assistance; but you can help! We are looking for weekly volunteers who can provide tutoring for two hours each visit (3-5 p.m. is our peak homework time). Math and reading/language arts tutors are most needed.
An ideal candidate will have at least some college education; have previous experience working as a tutor; have previous experience working with children; have good organizational skills; take initiative/be a self-starter; and have a positive attitude and a good sense of humor. Good communication skills and public speaking skills are also essential. Bilingual English and Spanish a plus, but not required. Music conducting (arms extended and moving in time), sitting, standing, walking, leaning, bending, and possible light lifting will be required and will vary by task and amounts of time.
MUSIC INSTRUCTOR
Share your musical skills and knowledge with students, ages 7-18. The Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley is looking for volunteers who are passionate about music and want share their passion with children! Our Club is looking to create a music program to offer free of charge to our students. Music can have a positive impact on children, mentally and emotionally- you can be a positive influence in a child's life!
Help us get started! This unpaid volunteer position will be responsible for working with Boys & Girls Club staff members to plan and establish a music program for student Club members. Examples of service duties include: one-on-one and/or group music instruction; obtaining musical instruments, sheet music, and other required supplies; putting on concerts at the Club for family and Club staff and members; and being a mentor. This position is great for music majors in college (for service hours or as an internship); retired persons with music histories; persons not currently working full-time; or anyone looking to share their love and knowledge of music.
The Boys & Girls Club is open Mondays through Fridays, from 2 - 7 p.m. Time commitment is flexible but should be regular, consistent, and fall within the Club hours. Ideally a volunteer will be able to work 1-2 days each week, for a 1-3 hours each day.

COMPUTER LAB INSTRUCTOR
Do you know a lot about computers, software programs, and/or web design? Share your computer skills and knowledge with students, ages 7-18. The Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley is looking for volunteers who are passionate about computers and want share their passion with children! Our Club is seeking to expand our computer lab class and we need your help!
This unpaid volunteer position will be responsible for working with Boys & Girls Club staff to plan and establish a fun and effective computer education programs for our students. Examples of service duties include, but are not limited to: one-on-one and/or group Microsoft Office, typing, web design, and safe Internet usage instruction; obtaining computer lab materials and supplies; and being a mentor. This position is great for computer science, technology, or education majors in college (for service hours or as an internship); retired persons skillful with typing and/or computer technology; persons not currently working full-time; or anyone looking to share their love and knowledge of computers and web design.

* All volunteer applicants must complete a volunteer interview with a BGC staff member. Upon successful completion a Live Scan background check must be performed and a TB test must be completed (both to be paid for by volunteer).
