L.A. Works Project Leader Training

Agency: L.A. Works

Description:

This training is for volunteers who have already participated in at least 3 L.A. Works projects as a volunteer or have other extensive volunteer experience.

Project LeaderAre you looking for a new challenge? Are you interested in assuming a more active role in your community? If so, become an L.A. Works Project Leader. By attending this brief training you'll learn how easy it is to lead an L.A. Works Project and make a difference in your community!

L.A. Works volunteer projects don't just happen overnight – they take months of research and planning, including attracting and training a Project Leader. At every project, you are greeted by a smiling Project Leader, welcoming you to the project site and ready to lead you in meaningful service.

What makes our model unique, in addition to creating original volunteer programming, is that we train volunteer Project Leaders to help us implement these programs. This gives our staff more time to build partnerships and create new programs and significantly leverage our impact. Without our more than 100 trained volunteer Project Leaders, we wouldn't be able to sustain or expand our programming. In addition, our Project Leaders become even more aware of the issues in the community and, in turn, become community leaders.

L.A. Works Project Leaders are responsible for taking project sign ups, developing fun and creative activities, and ensuring a project runs as smooth as possible and that volunteers have a meaningful experience. Project Leaders make a long-term commitment (ideally at least 6 months) to lead on a monthly, bi-weekly, or weekly basis depending on the program and their availability. Come find out how you can be a Project Leader!

---David Trilling, long-time project leader of Let's Read – Pueblo Del Rio---
My efforts with L.A. Works have been amongst the most enriching and gratifying of my life. I've been lucky to have had the chance to work with many many wonderful, bright, energetic, and curious kids over the last several years…It's a terrific opportunity for most people. It gives them that rare opportunity to do work they really love. It also gives them a chance to develop skills and take on responsibilities that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to take on and the rewards, though they may not help pay the rent, can be vast.
