Twice a month, L.A. Works volunteers provide companionship and support to the seniors of Alexandria Care Center. Volunteers accompany seniors on a neighborhood walk and shopping excursion at the local 99 Cent store. Volunteers also visit with seniors in the facility, working together on art & craft activities, playing games (Bingo!), conducting sing-a-longs, and sharing stories. Many of the senior residents do not get regular visitors, so the time that volunteers spend with them can make an important difference in their day.

Alexandria Care Center is a skilled-nursing facility providing short-term rehabilitation necessary to get senior clients back home as well as long-term care for senior clients requiring 24-hour assistnace.

Give a Day, Get a Disney Day: Volunteers who participate in this opportunity are eligible to earn a free ticket to a Disney theme park; however, the only way to receive a ticket is to sign up for this project through www.disneyparks.com.

Special Note: Bilingual (Spanish & English) skills are helpful.

Age Requirement: Volunteers for this project must be at least 5 years of age.

Minors: Any volunteer under the age of 18 will need to bring and have signed by a parent/guardian a Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors. Volunteers under 13 years of age will also need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Federal Law prohibits volunteers under the age of 13 from registering on-line. To sign up a family member under the age of 13, sign yourself up and then email the project leader directly to let her/him know. Or, form a family volunteer team, include your children as team members, and then sign your team up for the project.
