Agency: L.A. Works
Description:
About L.A. Works Day
For nearly two decades, L.A. Works has organized the single
largest corporate day of service in Southern California.
Corporations and community partners sponsor the day of service to bring
hundreds of their own employees and community members to revitalize schools,
parks, and community centers.
On June 12, 2010,
hundreds of L.A. Works volunteers will beautify
the Los Angeles community of Cypress Park
by painting and planting at three neighborhood schools, removing graffiti from
store-fronts on the main Figueroa corridor, and painting a community mural on
the side of the local coffee shop, Antigua. Just Added: Although L.A. Works Day has reached full capacity at 700+
volunteers, you can still help! With corporate sponsorships and individual
donations, L.A. Works Day is L.A. Works' largest annual fundraiser. A donation from you today will help
support our
volunteers who impact the most pressing social issues in Los Angeles, including
disadvantaged and impoverished youth, domestic violence, literacy, hunger and
homelessness, HIV/AIDS, elderly, the environment, and animal welfare. Please consider
making a donation today!
About L.A. Works' Partnerships
The
L.A. Works headquarters is located in Cypress Park
and we were inspired by our neighbors to focus our efforts here this year. A special thanks to our Presenting Sponsor, Northrop Grumman! Additional sponsors to-date include: Accenture,
Antigua Coffee House, Cinnamon Vegetarian Restaurant, Clear Channel, CBeyond, DF
Promotions, Forest City, Home
Depot, Howling Monk
Coffee, LEVEL Studios, Los
Angeles Dodgers, Neutrogena, Perkins and Will, Rose &
Kindel/Grayling, Viana Tofutown North America, and Westin Bonaventure Hotel. As
a social enterprise, corporate sponsorships for our Days of Service help cover
the cost of the program as well as to support our ongoing volunteer
programming.
The event will include a Resource Fair to provide the
community and volunteers with information about nonprofit resources and
services available in the neighborhood and greater city of Los Angeles. Live mural painting by Executive Art Director and co-founder of Mictlan
Murals, Raul Gonzalez. Performance by Gustavo Galindo, a passionate
singer/songwriter signed with Surco/Univeral Latino. A Special Home Run for
