RSVP Program Associate Position Description

About L.A. Works: L.A. Works is a 501(c)3 nonprofit volunteer action center that creates, manages, and implements hands-on community service projects throughout the greater Los Angeles area. With more than 25 years of success, L.A. Works addresses three principal needs: to increase volunteer participation in the community; to build the capacity of nonprofit organizations to achieve their missions through access to volunteer labor and other resources; and to educate and encourage people to engage in the broader social issues affecting the greater Los Angeles community.  L.A. Works has more than 30,000 registered volunteers who have contributed over 1,000,000 volunteer hours of service to thousands of nonprofits in the Los Angeles community.

RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people age 55 and above. Funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service as a part of the larger Senior Corps initiative, RSVP engages older Americans in volunteer opportunities across the country. These volunteers have been an invaluable resource for nationwide response efforts—in everything from hunger prevention to natural disasters. L.A. Works has received a renewable grant to develop a strong Los Angeles RSVP program. Building on the foundation of existing programming and relationships L.A. Works has with nonprofits in the community, this program will more than double the volunteer resources L.A. Works provides to the greater Los Angeles region.

Position Overview: The Program Associate will design and implement RSVP L.A. Works signature and customized projects in order build sustainability within the RSVP program and build community among RSVP members. This role will be responsible for maintaining relationships with nonprofit Volunteer Stations hosting Signature Projects and ensuring stations comply with appropriate management, placement and reporting of RSVP volunteers. Additionally, this role will be responsible for the design and execution of the customized project program in line with RSVP priorities and maintenance of relationships with senior groups who express interest in customized projects. This position requires someone who is out-going, tech-savvy, self-motivated, and able to self-manage.

Design and manage a RSVP signature projects in line with RSVP priorities including:

  • Management of 5-10 ongoing signature projects with nonprofit partners – this includes designing of projects, finding volunteer leaders for each project, ensuring at least 10 volunteers are participating in each project date, and collecting data on the impact of volunteers for each project;

  • Cultivation of strategic nonprofit relationships;

  • Provision of timely, accurate, and well-articulated quarterly and annual reports; and

  • Utilization of CRM database (Salesforce) for efficient volunteer communications, matching, tracking, reporting, record keeping and data management; and

Design and manage RSVP customized projects in line with RSVP priorities including:’

  • Design customized projects that minimize cost and manpower and maximize revenue and impact;

  • Cultivation of senior groups seeking customized projects

  • Identification of potential revenue driving opportunities for the customize project program; and

  • Provision of timely, accurate, and well-articulated quarterly and annual reports;

Provide general RSVP support in the following areas:

  • Lead annual RSVP Day of Service event and provide logistical support for additional RSVP specialized events;

  • Develop processes that ease workplans for RSVP;

  • Provide input on annual program plan and strategy;

  • Provide general reports on volunteers and nonprofit stations as needed: and

  • Participate in L.A. Works and RSVP events and projects, including large scale Days of Service.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum of three years progressively responsible management experience;

  • Knowledge of the nonprofit volunteering sector; in-depth understanding of volunteer management and engagement practices;

  • A track record of delivering results while juggling competing priorities under intense time pressure;

  • Strong customer service skills with professional demeanor in person, in writing, and on the phone;

  • Comfortable delivering presentations and guiding a room of participants;

  • Proactive, self-directed, and results-oriented personality with the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team;

  • Excellent networking and relationship building skills;

  • Ability to be creative and resourceful to develop new, unique programs and initiatives;

  • Great organizational skills and detail-oriented nature; and

  • Open to and excited by the opportunity to inform our strategic thinking and work within an entrepreneurial environment.

Additional responsibilities and requirements:

  • Support L.A. Works corporate and community programming as appropriate;

  • Meet baseline responsibilities and requirements within a set schedule;

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds;

  • Valid driver’s license;

  • Access to personal car for occasional travel throughout Los Angeles County;

  • Some evening and weekend commitments;

  • Experience with Salesforce, a plus;

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
