Pro Bono Grant Researcher/Writer (For Ages 55+) with Women in Media
Quick Overview: If you are passionate about growing a non-profit, have interest in gender parity and inclusion in the workforce, have an interest in the entertainment industry, and have an eye for identifying fundraising opportunities, then consider a volunteering as a grant researcher and writer for Women In Media. Organization Name and Website: Women in Media, https://womennmedia.com Mission or Broader Program Description: Women in Media encourages gender balance in film and entertainment industries by providing networking, professional development, and advocacy for above and below the line women and the people who love making movies with them.We are an intersectional group of women and woman identifying crew members in the film, television, and new media industries. Description: We are looking for experienced grant writers/fundraisers/networkers who can research and identify funding for Women in Media. The pro bono grant researcher we are looking for will have excellent writing, grammar, and communication skills. Pro Bono Web Designer for Travel Town Museum Foundation (Ages 55+)
Quick Overview: We’re looking for a talented Web Designer to update and develop our on-line educational outreach information. Organization Name: American Southwestern Railway Assoc, Inc. dba the Travel Town Museum Foundation Organization Website: https://www.traveltown.org/ (this is our old site, we are updating!) Mission: Our Mission is to educate the public about railroad history as it pertains to the development of the Southwest Region of the United States, particularly the Los Angeles area. We fulfill this mission by supporting the restoration, operation, and interpretation of the historic railroad equipment at the City-operated Travel Town Museum in Griffith Park. Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities: The ideal candidate should have an eye for clean and artful web design, and be willing to work with our President to create and fulfill our design for the look of the website. They should have good user interface design skills in Wordpress. They will work with ASRA/TTMF management to keep the site up-to-date and prioritize page development, coordinate draft revisions of multiple pages, and manage the revisions and completions in a timely manner. • Review current in-development site, create a strategy to list and then coordinate the completion of all the pages and links. • Input site content and graphics by coordinating with ASRA-TTMF management; could include designing images, icons, banners, other links etc. • Upgrades site by updating content and graphics; monitoring performance and results; identifying and evaluating improvement options; introducing new technology if applicable; maintaining links, and making suggestions for improvements. • Maintains site appearance by developing and enforcing content and display standards; editing submissions. • Create “Standard Operating Procedures” manual for ASRA-TTMF so other volunteers can update site as necessary, if primary user is unavailable. Requirements: • Practical experience working with Wordpress (our existing in-development website platform) • Knowledge of web user interface design and web programming skills • Strong teamwork and verbal communication skills • Ability to use illustration tools and develop multimedia content • Experience working with nonprofits preferred but not required • Experience in education, or railroad history a plus! Time Commitment: In the beginning as much time as you need to get the site up and running, then approximately 1-2 hours per week on maintenance. We would like a commitment of at least 8 hours a week to get things rolling. Our organization is a member of the presidential service awards program, and we have an annual luncheon and award ceremony to appreciate our volunteers. Our restoration crew works Saturdays at the Museum, and you as the website developer are encouraged to come out and see the work that is progressing regularly! However, all work can be done from your home.

Layout Designer needed for book production - Poetry
Quick Overview: The Community Literature Initiative (CLI) is looking for a Volunteer Layout Designer. In this role, you will be responsible for turning a completed author manuscript into a print-ready format book. You will work alongside prospective authors/students through the guidance of our book production team in order to produce high-quality innovative contemporary layout designs. With the support of our staff, you will play a pivotal role in establishing the aesthetic representation of our book designs. Your book designs may even be published through our partnership with the World Stage Press. Impact: The 10-month CLI Publishing Class culminates with students experiencing the book production process first-hand. The focus of the final few weeks of the course is guiding and supporting approximately 40 students in self-publishing their manuscripts. The Layout Designer will work with 4 Poets to help bring their dreams to reality. You will be using your design skills to uplift the voices of poets across the Greater Los Angeles area. Your work will help push our mission of creating an accessible, inclusive, and encouraging space for writers, poets, and artists alike. Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities: Format interior text content that suits both ebook and printed book layouts using the Amazon KDP calculator and any of our resources for reference Coordinate and comply with authors and the CLI Book Production team to revise designs until all parties are satisfied Communicate with authors and CLI Book Production Team team via Zoom, Trello, Phone, and email in a timely manner Ensure all pertinent parties have completed files that are in Print Ready Format for Local Printing (Gutter, Margin, Cropmarks) and Amazon KDP Provide graphic design files when requested Assist with the revision of existing files and collaborate with team members Requirements: Preferred qualifications... Familiarity with Trello, G Suite, Asana, and ability to learn additional software programs Highly experienced with Adobe Suite (namely InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator) An organized team player with a strong work ethic, excellent communication, and time management skills. An eye for design is a must! Proofreader for Book Publishing - Poetry
Quick Overview: Community Literature Initiative (CLI) is seeking volunteer Proofreaders to assist with book production. With the support of our staff, you play a pivotal role in coordinating with authors and designers to ensure accurate typeset proofs. Impact: The 10-week CLI Publishing Class culminates with students experiencing the book production process first-hand. The Proofreader will work with 4 poets to help bring their dreams to reality. Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities: The Proofreader Volunteer will detect and correct discrepancies between original poetry manuscrips and typeset proofs. Responsibilities include: Read content and suggest edits in copy and layout Communicate with authors and publishing staff Meet proofreading deadlines Requirements: Proven work experience as a Proofreader, Content Editor, Web Editor or similar role Excellent writing and editing skills Meticulous attention to detail Team spirit Familiarity with Trello and/or ability to learn new software Additional Information: This is a virtual role.
