Elevate Program
Virtual Workshops to help at-risk young adults cultivate job skills

Help support young adults (ages 17 to 24) accepted into the Elevate Program, a career mentorship program run by Los Angeles County.
About the Elevate Program
The program provides support to young adults in Los Angeles who have gone through foster care, experienced homelessness, or have been impacted by the justice system, giving them skills they can use and immediately apply to their next job.
Each Elevate young adult receives training and employment placement leading up to L.A. Works' Workforce Development workshops. Then, volunteers, like yourself, will participate in L.A. Works' curriculum to give participants new career skills they can apply the next work day. In less than 2 hours, your time in these workshops help pay dividends in our community for generations to come!
Elevate Program Mission
It is our mission that these workshops help these young adults keep their employment and advance in the future. This is the support and guidance that so many young adults struggle to find, and each of your volunteer hours can make all the difference.
This project is part of L.A. Works' Workforce Development initiative, which strives to support underserved Angelenos who are seeking genuine help and guidance with career and job skills. We’re here to support young adults who have not yet found a way to access mentorship or support regarding their potential, career opportunities, and future. If you had someone help you with these questions, or remember how you found the answers on your own, and please consider passing that knowledge on to others!
VOLUNTEER ROLES NEEDED:
We’re recruiting volunteers who can participate in one or more workshop during the series.
You may sign-up for a single workshop or multiple workshops. It is up to you!
You will receive video training that you can complete on your own time in the week leading up to your workshop. You will have the support of staff to answer questions before the workshop, and staff leading the workshop curriculum, so that you only need to focus on imparting your personal experience to applicants who are eager to hear from you.
WORKSHOP 2: WORKPLACE BEHAVIOR & SELF-ADVOCATING
Friday, 10.06.2023, 9:45 AM - 12:00 PM

Led and supported by staff, you will work with applicants on how to conduct themselves in the workplace professionally. They will also learn their employment rights and how to advocate for themselves if their rights are violated.
WORKSHOP 6: CAREER DAY
Friday, 11.03.2023, 9:45 AM - 12:00 PM

Led and supported by staff, this workshop will need two tiers of volunteers - a small group to serve as panelists who will give a brief description of their career path. Then, a larger need for volunteers to aid the panelists in sharing their experience in greater depth and furthering the discussion in breakout rooms, so the participants gain career knowledge.
*Please note: If you are interested in sitting on this panel, reach out after registering to the Workforce Development team: workforcedevelopment@laworks.com at least two weeks prior to the workshop date.
