L.A. Works unites Angelenos and inspires action for an equitable LA. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit volunteer action center, we create and manage hands-on community service projects to mobilize volunteers throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The Corporate Department is responsible for harnessing the power of corporate volunteers to uplift the community as a whole. And, as a social enterprise, funds from L.A. Works’ corporate department helps to support our free, ongoing volunteer programming available to the community all year round. From a single day, large-scale makeover of a school/nonprofit to quarterly small group projects, we work with the corporate client to create an impactful and fun day of service for their staff, while giving them the opportunity to engage with and learn about a local community organization. 

Position Overview: This role supports corporate program operations by managing non-profit relationships, day-of event management, and event and supply logistics. The ideal candidate will have strong communications skills, be a self-starter, have experience in event production, and experience working with and managing volunteers and/or teams. L.A. Essential Job Functions 

The list that follows is not intended to be comprehensive; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major responsibilities of the position. Incumbents may not be required to perform all roles listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks. 

 

Plan and execute virtual, remote and in-person corporate volunteer events by: 

  • Developing events and volunteer projects from ideation to execution; 

  • Maintaining clear communication channels and relationships with corporate event contacts;

  • Identifying and building relationships with nonprofit/school site(s); 

  • Procuring event supplies and preparing materials for events; 

  • Ensuring all event project supplies are at the project site the day of the event; 

  • Training general volunteers and corporate volunteers as project leaders for events; 

  • Attending events and lead volunteers through projects; 

  • Handling permits and school processes (insurance, approvals, etc.); 

  • Assisting with cleaning and organizing a small warehouse of light construction equipment and volunteer event project supplies; and

  • Loading and unloading event supplies.


Additional Requirements: 

  • Support L.A. Works large-scale signature events and other all-organization wide needs;

  • Participate in an L.A. Works taskforce (an organization-wide, collaborative team); 

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds; 

  • Valid driver’s license; 

  • Access to personal car for occasional travel throughout Los Angeles County; 

  • Some evening and weekend commitments; and 

  • Any and all other duties assigned by the supervisor.

 

About You: 

  • A minimum of two years progressively responsible event management experience. 

  • Experience training and supervising employees or long-term volunteers. 

  • Knowledge of the nonprofit sector; understanding of volunteer management and engagement practices. 

  • A track record of delivering results while juggling competing priorities under intense time pressure. 

  • Comfortable delivering presentations and guiding a room of participants. 

  • Proactive, self-directed, and results-oriented personality with the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. 

  • Ability to be creative and resourceful to develop new, unique programs and initiatives. 

  • Great event planning, organizational skills and detail-oriented nature. 

  • Experience and skill with writing and editing grant applications, with ability to develop and adapt grant proposals to specific sponsor requirements. 

  • Ability to handle sensitive materials and confidential information with discretion and tact. 

  • Excellent skill in setting priorities to meet deadlines and reflect accurately the relative importance of job duties and assignments. 

  • Flexibility to respond effectively to changing priorities and fluctuating workloads. • Must be conscientious in attention to detail. 

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is a plus! 

  • Experience with Salesforce is a plus!

Time Expectations: 

  • This is a full-time 40 hours per week position. 

  • Events may include evening or weekends, flexible schedule required 

  • The percentage of time devoted to specific responsibilities subject to organizational and corporate event timeline. 


This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Targeted hiring salary is $55,000.

 

Salary commensurate with experience and internal equity. L.A. Works offers a competitive benefit package including health insurance, professional development opportunities, a non-match 401k, and generous time-off. Covid-19 Safety: L.A. Works requires its employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, subject to certain exemptions as required by law. New hires working at L.A. Works must be fully vaccinated no later than 60 days after hire. All employees are also required to submit to additional masking and social distancing requirements.
