*LEADER OPPORTUNITY: Piano Lessons for At-Risk Youth

WHAT: Lead other volunteers in piano lessons for underserved youth. ABOUT ANGELICA CENTER FOR ARTS AND MUSIC: ACAM is a community-based arts education organization whose mission is to nurture and mentor at-risk youth of the in the arts in the greater Pico-Union neighborhood. ACAM seeks to empower youth, build self-confidence and self-esteem by developing their creative talents and honing their skills in music, theatre and dance. THE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY YOU'D LEAD: At "MUSICWORKS: Piano Lessons with At-Risk Youth," kids with limited exposure to music learn to play piano, write their own songs, and express themselves. Community volunteers who can play the piano act as tutors to help them. AS A PROJECT LEADER, YOU'D: design and lead the piano lessons to kids aged 7-14 confirm, orient, and supervise volunteers manage all communication between volunteers, ACAM, and L.A. WHAT: Help youth learn and rehearse guitar. DESCRIPTION OF NON-PROFIT PARTNER: Friends of the Family is a comprehensive family resource center known for pioneering innovative, practical programs where families are recognized as central to a child’s well being and are supported to build on their skills and strengths. VOLUNTEER PROJECT: Come help kids aged 8-17 with little to no access to music education learn how to play guitar. Under the guidace of a Project Leader, you'll help students one on one. IMPACT: Did you know kids with music education have higher self esteem, test scores, and graduation rates? You can be the person who helped make that happen. ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Volunteers must: be aged 18+ play guitar at at least a beginner's level complete an interview with Friends of the Family, a background check, and a TB test prior to volunteering WANT TO SIGN UP?
