*LEADER OPPORTUNITY: Guitar lessons for At-Risk Youth

What: Lead other volunteers in guitar lessons for underserved youth. About Hathaway Sycamores: Hathaway enriches the well-being of children, adults, families, and communities via a wide range of services such as youth residences, mental health support, foster care, and more. The volunteer opportunity you'd lead: At "MUSICWORKS: Guitar with At-Risk Youth," kids with limited exposure to music learn to play guitar, write their own songs, and express themselves. Community volunteers who can play the guitar act as tutors to help them. As the Project Leader, you'd: design and lead the guitar classes confirm, orient, and supervise volunteers manage all communication between volunteers, Hathaway, and L.A. Works Time Commitment: Every other Saturday morning from 10:30am - 12:30pm. Location: Highland Park in East L.A. Project Leader Requirements: Some skill in guitar required, but expertise is not Leaders must attend an L.A. Works training. *LEADER OPPORTUNITY: Make Music with Special Needs Kids

What: Go beyond being a regular volunteer and become a volunteer Project Leader for the "Homemade Music Instrument Jam with Special Needs Kids" volunteer opportunity. About the Friendship Foundation: The Friendship Foundation supports parents and families who have children and young adults with special needs by providing a safe, accepting, and inclusive environment where they can enjoy sports, art, and music with their peers. The event you'd manage: At "MUSICWORKS: Homemade Instrument Jam with Special Needs Kids," volunteers aged 8+ help special needs kids and young adults create homemade music instruments from recycled objects. Then everyone lets loose in an improvised music jam using their created instruments! It's a chance for kids to express themselves through crafts and music and even - we hope - some dancing. Date and time: This is a new volunteer opportunity that can be scheduled either Fridays at 4:30 or any time Sundays - whatever works for your schedule. It would happen every other week or once a month and last 2 hours. Location: Redondo Beach Project Leader Requirements: Prior experience with music or disabled individuals is NOT required - but patience and kindness is. Leaders must commit to leading the project for at least 6 months. Leaders must attend an L.A. Works training. Leaders must clear any background checks required by the Friendship Foundation Project Leader Responsibilities: Assign, direct, and supervise volunteers at events Manage all communication between volunteers, Friendship Foundation, and L.A. *LEADER OPPORTUNITY: Help Public School Students Rock

What: Step up your volunteer game by leading music volunteers in LAUSD Modern Band classrooms. About Little Kids Rock: Little Kids Rock is a national nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that all public school children have the opportunity to unlock their inner music makers. They do this by partnering with school districts, training public school teachers in their innovative curriculum, and donating all of the instruments and resources necessary to run rockin’ music programs. The event you'd manage: At "MUSICWORKS: Teach Kids to Rock," community volunteers skilled in an instrument help public school students learn to play and appreciate music. As the Project Leader, you'd: recruit and train volunteers assign, direct, and supervise volunteers manage all communication between volunteers, Little Kids Rock, and L.A. Works be led by a public school teacher who will be in charge of teaching the curriculum Time Commitment: Time and day varies from school to school, but averages 2-4 hours per week during school hours. Leaders must commit to the role for a minimum of 6 months. Location: Public schools all across LA. Project Leader Requirements: Prior musical experience is NOT required - but certainly helpful Leaders must attend an L.A. Works training.
