Description
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., this year we'll be beautifying George Washington Carver Middle School.
Impact: Studies have shown that students in subpar buildings perform lower on tests than students in more affluent schools. Our volunteers will paint, clean, build, and garden in an attempt to close this achievement gap.
Project Leader Role & Responsibilities: Project Leaders head teams of 10-20 volunteers and teach them how to complete the project, ensure their safety, and guide them to their various locations.
Project Leaders must attend a quick 2-hour training to learn how to do their project the Thursday evening or Saturday morning before.
Date: January 21st, 2018
Location: George Washington Carver Middle School
Time: 6:45 AM - 3:00 PM. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Waivers & Minors: All volunteers will need to fill out the LAUSD Waiver and the L.A. Works Waiver at the time of registration.
Dress Code: Comfy clothes and sneakers (sturdy closed-toe shoes). Please wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Wear sunscreen, a hat, and bring your own eco-friendly water bottle if you have one.
Accessibility: L.A. Works firmly believes that we strengthen the social fabric of our community by involving all in service. If you feel you need accommodations to participate in this project, please email us at info@laworks.com.
Teams/Groups: Project Leaders are assigned to different groups, so teams of Project Leaders will not work together. They will train together and all be present on MLK day, but Project Leaders are assigned to lead separate groups.
If you are part of a group that would be interested in leadership, please feel free to sign up or contact Denise@laworks.com.
