The volunteer will be coordinating a variety of member action teams already in place or being built from a membership base of 200 people whose mission is to greatly expand the implementation of emotional intelligence training in all California schools. Educators call this social-emotional learning and it is a major game-changer and reform for students in school and in their lives.
Mission or Broader Program Description:
About only 12 percent of California schools fully implement the programs and practices of social-emotional learning despite their proven positive effects on academic success as well as mitigating the negative realities of school violence, disengagement, drug usage, digital addiction and suicides. The Alliance membership is composed of educators, program providers and members of community organizations who have come together to take actions to overcome public ignorance of and bureaucratic resistance to implementing these remarkable learnings in all state schools. Members are active in task teams that need an overarching coordinator.
Probably be hard to have a larger impact on schools and life from a volunteer role. You will be working with quality people and helping them implement a cause they are passionate about because they have seen the amazing positive results on children and into their adult lives. Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities:
You will be working with team leaders to facilitate their meetings and organize information flow to them and to the Alliance leadership. Ideally you have leadership skills and experience yourself and can help manage the process of integrating the various team actions as a resource provider and executive leader. Or if not already experienced in senior management role, you have the innate capacity to grow into those shoes if you start with handling the service operational tasks.
Requirements: Optional items to consider
Be very well organized and able to handle details. Be good with people and a self-starter. Of course, have a high level of being responsible.
Having a flexible work availability schedule would be helpful.
The vast bulk of this work is virtual as most of the organizing goes on by phone, text and email and the meetings via Zoom or Skype. You would work from home or wherever you chose and use your own computer and be reimbursed for any phone expenses or travel.
