Children's Museum Volunteer

Location: Los Angeles CA, 90048

Date: 6/13/2018 Spots Remaining: 5

If you are interested in early childhood education, the visual arts, community service, and/or any combination of the above, then volunteer at the Zimmer Children's Museum! The Zimmer Children's Museum is looking for friendly, and outgoing persons who would like a rewarding volunteer experience in a unique environment.

Our hands on museum is dedicated to teaching children the BIG IDEAS of global citizenship, community responsibility and cultural sensitivity by highlighting respect for others, generosity, helping those in need, accepting differences and celebrating uniqueness. If you care about child education, enjoy being in a fun creative space, and have skills you want to share, we have a number of volunteer assignments available. We will help you decide which responsibilities to take on at the museum based on both the needs of the museum and your skill set! We also provide training.

Volunteer opportunities are available on Monday thru Friday and Sunday during regular museum hours (visit our website for times: Zimmer Museum), but depending on your particular interests we are more than happy to work around your schedule.

Program Description: There are various types of volunteer roles, but all volunteers help with essential day-to-day functions of the museum. By volunteering at our museum you will be reaching out to families, children, and museum-goers alike.

Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities: We have various types of volunteer roles that need to be filled at the museum (volunteer descriptions can be found here: https://www.zimmermuseum.org/pdfs/Volunteer%20Types_2015.pdf). All of the volunteer positions help out the museum in its daily functions/efforts to provide an arts based education and cultural awareness to children, youth, and their families.

Time Commitment: Must commit to 2 hour shifts at least once per month, 10AM - 4PM M-F, 12PM - 4PM Sun.

All volunteers must:
• fill out a volunteer application
• complete a background check
• go through an interview process

Clothing policy for volunteers:
• All volunteers wear the Zimmer Children's Museum volunteer t-shirt when working
• No tight fitting clothing
• Skirts and shorts must be at least mid-thigh when seated
• No visible rips or tears in clothing
• Closed toe shoes are required when working on the museum floor

We encourage Volunteers to have a background in Art, Culture, Recreations & Sports, Education & Child support, but it is not a requirement.

Benefits: Volunteers get the chance to gain hands-on experience working with young children in an informal educational arts-integrated setting. They will also get a chance to help develop curriculum, facilitate activities, and learn more about arts and early childhood education.
