Shoes That Fit

Mission and Vision:

Shoes That Fit tackles one of the most visible signs of poverty in America by giving children in need new athletic shoes to attend school with dignity and joy, prepared to learn, play and thrive.

A new pair of shoes can be life-changing for a child. School attendance, self-esteem and behavior improve. Physical activity increases. Smiles return. All from an often over-looked item—a good pair of shoes.

Our vision is that, one day, every child in America who needs new shoes gets new shoes, allowing all children the opportunity to reach their highest potential.

Impact: Almost all of the work that we do at Shoes That Fit is through our amazing volunteers working to help children in their own communities. Last year we helped more than 108,000 nationwide and almost 15,000 children in Los Angeles County alone. Still, there are more than 50 schools in Los Angeles County that have reached out to us and are waiting for someone like you to step up and help their students.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: Volunteers work to provide or generate shoe donations for kids in need of new shoes in their community.  Shoes That Fit staff will be with you every step of the way, helping to match you with a school, having the children measured and getting you a list with each child’s name, age, gender and shoe size. You and the other members of your group purchase, or solicit others to donate, what each student needs and deliver those shoes to the school.

Requirements: Volunteers need to complete the Shoes That Fit Participation Agreement and we will then send you our Shoes That Fit Startup Kit. You decide how many kids you can help (a minimum of 10) and we can help you find a school and contact them for you. Once you receive your list of names and sizes, you are responsible for obtaining and delivering the shoes within a few weeks (Remember! The kids don’t stop growing while they are waiting for their shoes!)

Shoes That Fit has a small staff of 8.5. We rely on volunteers like you to reach as many children as possible by helping the kids right in your own community.  We are 100% funded through the private sector – businesses, foundations and individuals like you.
