Volunteer Day Part One with the MACHAO Orphanage Foundation

Location: Burbank CA, 91501

Date: 5/19/2018 Spots Remaining: 9

Quick Overview: Join the MACHAO Orphanage Foundation for a day of packing up backpacks with vital hygiene supplies that will travel to 43 orphans living in Makueni, Kenya

Mission or Broader Program Description: The MACHAO Orphanage Foundation is a subsidiary of the Cayenne Wellness Center and Children's Foundation. Our mission is to assist the orphaned and impoverished children of Makueni, Kenya by providing shelter, food, clothing and an education through the support of well wishers all over the world. They range in age from 6 to 19 years old, and we work to support them throughout their education and providing the basic needs they must have to live happy, healthy, and successful lives. Every year, we bring over a fresh round of supplies to get these children through their next year of school, and that's where the Volunteer Day Part One gets its origins, to make sure these items are packed and ready to begin their trip over to Makueni, Kenya.

Impact: Our volunteers will touch the lives of not only our 43 children, but also the additional children that we support at the Mama Sarah Obama Foundation. We believe that all children, regardless of economic status and situation, deserve to live healthy and confident lives. By packing these materials and making sure they are in top shape for these children, you ensure that a child has important necessities such as deodorant and soap. A clean child is a child ready to step out the door and face school for the day. When you fill a back pack with love, you are sending over the object that will carry that child through the next school year. And, when you decorate a box that will carry candy or sweets over, you send a message of warmth over to a heart waiting on the other side of the ocean.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: Volunteers will: first sort the hygiene materials we have available, such as soap, deodorant, lotion, tooth paste, and toothbrushes, into their appropriate piles. Second, materials and backpacks will be laid out and then each backpack will receive an equal number of materials, ensuring that each child receives the same amount of love. Third, volunteers can paint or decorate a box which will later carry over candy and toys to each of the kids in need - leaving their own special signature for the children.

Requirements: All ages are welcome! Children under the age of 18 should arrive with adult supervision or written consent. There may be some heavy lifting and quite a bit of standing.
