Who: Los Angeles Public Library STAR Program
What: Join this training to share your love of reading with children for 2 hours per week. Bring books to life and help make early literacy exposure fun. Sharing great books and stories with children teaches them important pre-reading skills and motivates them to want to learn to read.
Time Commitment: After the initial training, the commitment is 2hrs of reading/week at a pre-established time for at least 6 months.
Where: Orientation is in Wilmington. Ongoing volunteer activities can be done at local Public Libraries
Why: Studies show that reading aloud to children helps them learn to read more easily, read at a higher level, enjoy reading more and excel in school.
