Mission or Broader Program Description: At the Pasadena Educational Foundation our mission is to support, enhance and supplement the programs, initiatives, and priorities of the Pasadena Unified School District. Our vision is for every PUSD student to receive an excellent education, to reach his or her full potential, and to become a joyful and fully engaged member of our democratic society.
Impact: Ray Joiner was an exemplary person and volunteer with the Pasadena Educational Foundation and PUSD Schools. We are holding this chess tournament to CELEBRATE him, his legacy and the game of chess he loved so much.
Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities:
We are looking for individuals both with chess experience and without to help us organize and run our chess tournament on Saturday September 15 from 9:00am-3:00 pm.
There are several volunteer roles we need to fill:
1. Helping with registration
2. Helping with pairings
3. Helping answer chess questions
4. Recording results
Skills: No special skills are required for check-in and score keepers. A competent level of chess knowledge is required for tournament monitors who answer player questions.
Age Requirement: Must be at least 16
