Overview:  Join the orientation to learn how to be trained to work with kinder to third-grade students in small groups to tutor them in reading during the after school hours.

Organization Name and Website: LA's BEST in partnership with AARP Foundation Experience Corps. www.lasbest.org

Mission:  To provide a safe and supervised after school education, enrichment, and recreation program for children ages 5 to 12 in Los Angeles.

Impact: The LA's BEST AARP Foundation implements a data-driven program to improve the literacy rates of youth because we know that students who cannot read proficiently by the end of 4th grade are four times more likely to drop out of school compared to proficient readers. 

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: Tutor K–3 students in small groups during afterschool hours. Volunteers receive ongoing training, mentorship coaching and peer support as part of AARP Foundation’s award-winning Experience Corps program. Attend this information session to learn more.

Requirements: For our RSVP volunteers - Must pass a background check and TB test.
