Mission or Broader Program Description: The mission at Labor Community Services is to provide a safety net for the labor movement, whether it be through the food program, disaster relief fund, or financial literacy. For over six decades, LCS and the LA Fed have been assisting unemployed and underemployed union families with groceries during the year via pantries, National Association of Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive, and holiday meals. We are committed to improving lives and providing resources and referrals so that we can help union members get ahead. There are families who work 40 hours a week and it is not enough to live on, because they are often forced to decide between paying rent, purchasing food, or buying medicine for a sick child. We are proud to offer basic services to working women and men who need the most help.

Impact: Our volunteers help restock 50 pantries for the Summer months, helping to feed 100,000 or more children who otherwise would go hungry.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: Please come out every day from Monday to Saturday to Help sort  1.6 million pounds of food to help children get the nutrition they need. During your shift, you'll help with: Sorting Food Donations by item and expiration date, disposing of damaged donations, and packing and palletizing boxes of food for partner pantries.

Requirements: You must wear closed toes shoes and comfortable clothes. Minor 10-17 years must be accompanied by a consenting adult. No small children due to safety concerns. * Volunteers under the age of 18 will need to bring and have signed by a parent/guardian a Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors. The form can be found on L.A. Works website Q&A section.
