⚙ SPRUCE IT UP: ECO-Friendly Garden Workday at Carthay Elementary

WHAT: Go back to school and be a kid again while getting your hands dirty at EMA's Carthay Elementary Environmental Studies Magnet School Garden.

ABOUT EMA: The Environmental Media Association is a diverse subsection of entertainment industry influencers, entrepreneurs in business, and green icons dedicated to the mission of promoting environmental progress. One of their school gardens at Carthay Elemntary Environmental Studies Magnet School showcases an extensive edible garden, outdoor classroom, kindergarten garden, and animal care center. https://www.green4ema.org/programs/ema-school-garden-program

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES: Join us on the second Sunday of each month and help with gardening and school maintenance tasks as directed by Master Gardeners from the County of Los Angeles. Get your hands dirty weeding, planting, mulching, watering, harvesting, caring for animals, and helping with school beautification.

IMPACT: Your work will help support the school's mission to teach sustainability and environmental awareness to the next generation of Earth's caretakers.

REQUIREMENTS: All volunteers under 18 must do the following or they cannot participate:

  • bring this Minor Waiver form signed by a legal guardian to the event
  • be accompanied by an adult.

SPECIAL NOTES:  We'll provide the water, but please:

  • bring sun protection, a hat, and clothes you don't mind getting dirty
  • wear closed-toe shoes and dress in layers
