Preschool Classroom Assistant

Location: Los Angeles CA, 90015

Date: 8/19/2019 Spots Remaining: 49

Quick Overview: We are seeking to train volunteers 55 and older to work with preschool children to build language, literacy and social skills.

Mission or Broader Program Description: Jumpstart provides language, literacy, and social-emotional programming for preschool children from under-resourced communities and promotes quality early learning for all. Our vision is that every child in America enters Kindergarten prepared to succeed! With your help, we will serve nearly 200 children this year.

Impact: Each preschool partner is in a low-income community where the children served may not have the same opportunities as a more affluent area. By learning and implementing Jumpstart's curriculum, you provide additional support and opportunities for children to learn and grow! You are a caring and consistent adult in their lives who will be there with them through the challenges and celebrate their successes! This is also a wonderful opportunity for older adults to socially engage with each other as you serve on a team of 5-6 people, and build a sense of community within our program.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: There is a 15 hour per week minimum, and you can work up to 40 hours per week. Mandatory Pre-Service training starts on August 19, 2019. Every first and third Friday training is also a mandatory from September through May. Our program year will wrap up in June 2020 with lots of fun and rewarding moments along the way!

Requirements: Must meet income eligibility requirements to serve and receive the stipend, meal and transportation reimbursement. TB test and vaccinations may be required at your assigned preschool. Criminal history checks will be conducted prior to your first day of service.
