Quick Overview: Work on resumes, conduct mock interviews and prepare budgets with youth experiencing homelessness, to prepare them to join the workforce and help them enhance their life skills.
Mission or Broader Program Description: Covenant House California is a non-profit organization that provides hope to homeless and at-risk youth (ages 18-24) and continually gives them a chance to change their lives. Since 1988, they have grown to become a model of comprehensive services with critically needed programs in Los Angeles, California. For more than 5,000 youth each year, these services include street outreach, shelter, transitional living, health care, HIV/AIDS education, employment assistance, substance abuse counseling, psychological and psychiatric services, and a wide range of cultural and recreational activities.
This project is part of RSVP at L.A. Works' Adult Education and Employment initiative. We are organizing a series of volunteer-led workshops with various nonprofit partners like Covenant House to prepare people for new or better jobs. Topics include interview skills, resume and cover letter writing, financial literacy and more.
Impact: Your choice to volunteer at Covenant House is a choice to support youth in difficult circumstances who want to make better lives for themselves and be productive citizens. Any experience you have as an interviewer or applicant is invaluable to folks who don't. If you've ever had a job, you can help someone else find one!
Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: As a volunteer, you will assist the workshop leader in delivering curriculum.
Requirements: Participants must be age 55 or older to participate in RSVP events such as this. ANY employment experience is enough to make your presence valuable.
