Noche de Ofrenda at Grand Park

Location: Los Angeles CA, 90012

Date: 10/26/2019 Spots Remaining: 1

Quick Overview: SHG's Noche de Ofrenda will be held in partnership with Grand Park on Saturday, October 26, 2019. Located between City Hall and The Music Center, Grand Park is at the heart of Downtown Los Angeles and offers their land for our offerings once a year on la Noche de Ofrenda. Participants are invited to place their newly created offerings or those brought from home together to create a community altar to display throughout our Dia de los Muertos festivities.

Mission or Broader Program Description: Founded in 1970 as "Art, Inc.", but incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1973 as "Self Help Graphics & Art" (SHG), SHG is dedicated to the production, interpretation and distribution of prints and other art media by Chicana/o and Latinx artists. Our multidisciplinary and intergenerational programs promote artistic excellence and empower our community by providing access to space, tools, training and capital.

Impact: The tradition of making altars to honor our ancestors and passed loved ones serves as a way for the community to contribute their memories with special tokens of remembrance. The Community Altar is constructed at Grand Park and invites community to place photos and items remembering their loved ones.
