46th Annual Dia de los Muertos Celebration

Quick Overview: Self Help Graphics & Art will host its annual Dia de los Muertos celebration at the Self Help Graphics & Art location and the neighboring area.  The celebration's participants take part in a public procession where life size Calaveras, personal and family items, are carried to a large Community Altar that honors deceased family members. The procession and traditional blessing kicks off a festive Dia de los Muertos celebration with arts, craft and food vendors, musical performances, face painting, and children's art workshops. Over 7,000 guests enjoy a community gathering that celebrates community, life and death. 

Mission or Broader Program Description: Founded in 1970 as "Art, Inc.", but incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1973 as "Self Help Graphics & Art" (SHG), SHG is dedicated to the production, interpretation and distribution of prints and other art media by Chicana/o and Latinx artists. Our multidisciplinary and intergenerational programs promote artistic excellence and empower our community by providing access to space, tools, training and capital.

Impact: As a volunteer, your contributions help us provide a free Dia de los Muertos Celebration for the community.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: Volunteer positions will include general set up and break down, merchandise and beverage sales, donation hosts, face painters, children's activity assistants, Pan de Muerto sales, and volunteer check-in.


  • All volunteers must be at least 14 years of age (must be accompanied by a guardian if younger).
    * Volunteers under the age of 18 will need to bring and have signed by a parent/guardian a Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors. The form can be found on L.A. Works website Q&A section.All shifts are atleast 3 hours. You must commit to staying for the duration of your shift.
