Kitchen Support at Metro LA Bridge Home

Location: Los Angeles CA, 90004

Date: 10/10/2019 Spots Remaining: 2000

Description

Help serve meals with PATH!

Quick Overview: Support kitchen staff at our Metro LA interim housing location. This interim site serves over 98 men and women in a transitional housing setting. This is a low barrier, harm-reduction, short term shelter (typically 30-90 days) where clients can have immediate needs met and subsequently, have the capacity to engage with critical social services.

Organization Name and Website: PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) at epath.org

Mission: Our mission is to end homelessness for individuals, families, and communities. PATH envisions a world where every person has a home. Our values include creative collaborations, strategic leadership, empowerment for all, and passionate commitment.

Impact: Everyday, our kitchen staff receive and sort donations from our partner, Trader Joe's. Staff need support during the week to prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner for clients. You will get the opportunity to serve a warm meal to our clients, as well as engage them in meaningful conversation and company.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: Volunteers MUST register for an account on BetterImpact: here. Once you fill out the application, you will receive further information on next steps, as well as how to view and sign up for shifts. Note that expressing interest in a shift does not mean volunteers are confirmed. We work diligently to maintain appropriate communication with kitchen staff, and so we ask that volunteers contact us at least a week in advance. Volunteers work under the supervision of kitchen staff. We have two shifts available:

  • Lunch: Volunteers support in unpacking and sorting food donations, as well as prepare meals.
  • Dinner: Volunteers support kitchen staff prepare dinner and serve.

Requirements: Volunteers must attend a monthly volunteer orientation, 18+, completed and signed Volunteer Agreement and Release of Liability

Accessibility: We ask that volunteers be able to lift up to 45 lbs and stand for longer periods of time. The building is accessible by ramp.
