*PLOGGING! Jog and Clean Debs Park

Location: Los Angeles CA, 90031

Date: 11/16/2019 Spots Remaining: 14

Description

WHAT: The goal is to pick up trash while jogging. It's fun exercise for people who care about the environment.

ABOUT AUDUBON: In addition to restoring habitat for bird and other wildlife at Debs Park and along the L.A. River, the Center’s primary goal is restoring the connection between people and the land in Los Angeles. As the first center that Audubon built within an urban environment to specifically engage the Latino community, the Audubon Center at Debs Park has played an important role in building a more diverse and inclusive conservation movement here in Los Angeles and beyond. https://debspark.audubon.org/

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES: Clean the streets of LA one jog at a time!  Plogging is a fitness craze from Sweden that is quickly gaining popularity in the US. The term combines the word “jogging” with the Swedish term “plocka upp”, which means to pick up.

Our event was on the local and national news!

IMPACT: A healthier environment and a healthier body!

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Wear comfortable activewear and running shoes.
  • If you can, please bring: water, gloves, reusable plastic grocery bags
SPECIAL NOTES: We will be plogging (running and picking up trash) on a 5-mile stretch along Griffin Ave, the Arroyo Seco, and in Debs Park. The run will start and end in Audubon Center courtyard. The specific route (up to 5 miles) will be provided at the start of the run. Trash drop off points will be at all trail intersections and at the Audubon center. **Please note both the start time and the route will differ depending on the date.  Kevin-led days begin at 8:30am and involve a longer flatter run; Alma-led days begin at 9am and involve more hiking and elevation change.

ACCESSIBILITY: L.A. Works firmly believes that we strengthen the social fabric of our community by involving all in service. If you feel you need accommodation to participate in this project please email us at info@laworks.com
