Help us Prepare for MLK Jr. Day of Service 2020

Location: Los Angeles CA, 90045

Date: 1/18/2020 Spots Remaining: 2

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., more than 1,000 volunteers will be serving on January 20th at Orville Wright Middle School Steam Magnet. This is a BIG event with a over a hundred projects happening all at the same time. In order to ensure that everything goes smoothly on the actual day of service, we need YOUR help to prep the site!

Impact: Studies have shown that student achievement can be affected either positively or negatively by the school environment. School beautification is a great way to increase morale and motivate students. Beautiful and clean facilities push students in the right direction by giving them an uplifting, positive space to work and grow in. They will come into school knowing that someone took the time to take care of a place they call home for eight or more hours of the day.

Volunteer Project: Volunteers will help us prepare for MLK 2020 by setting up chairs, tables, and place settings. May also assist with prepping projects: distributing supplies, taping paint projects (no actual painting), etc.

Date: January 18th 2020

Location: Orville Wright Middle School Steam Magnet - directions will be emailed to you after you sign up. Space is limited so registration is required.

Waivers & Minors: All volunteers will need to fill out the LAUSD Waiver and the L.A. Works Waiver at the time of registration. Any volunteer under the age of 18 will need to bring and have signed by a parent/guardian an L.A. Works Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors. Volunteers under the age of 14 must have a parent/guardian with them. Volunteers under the age of 14 cannot create L.A. Works Accounts so parents/guardians must create a Team to sign up their family.

Dress Code: Casual attire and sneakers (sturdy closed-toe shoes). Please wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Wear sunscreen, a hat and bring your own eco-friendly water bottle if you have one.

Accessibility: L.A. Works firmly believes that we strengthen the social fabric of our community by involving all in service. If you feel you need accommodations to participate in this project, please email us at steve@laworks.com.
