Mock Interviewers Needed

Mission: To ensure the continuous improvement of effective and aligned cradle-to-career public education and workforce development systems in Los Angeles, resulting in all children and youth having access to a high-quality education. With a priority focus on the underserved, prepare the region's children and youth for high-skill, high-wage employment in a fulfilling career of choice.

Program Description: Help 11th grade high school students prepare for job and internship interviews. Students prepare for interviews and are tested by performing a mock interview with a volunteer with a professional background. Volunteers are helping South LA youth gain effective communication skills and developing a future workforce that meets industry needs.

Role & Responsibilities: 

Volunteers will help high school students practice for summer internship interviews.  Students will demonstrate their work readiness skills by performing in a mock interview. Students will come with a resume, sample job application, and prepared to respond to interview questions. Students are also required to dress in professional attire for the mock interviews.

The volunteer performs the role of a mock interviewer with an 11th grade high school student performing the role of prospective employee. Pre-arranged Interview questions and scoring rubric will be provided. Volunteers will be oriented to interviewer materials upon arrival. Each interview takes about 20 minutes with volunteer feedback to follow. 

Time Commitment: Minimum 2 hours.

TIMES: 8:30 a.m.- 12 p.m. 
8:30-9:00 a.m. Orientation and scoring rubric overview for volunteers

9:00 a.m. -12 p.m. Mock Interviews

Requirements: Volunteers and students are asked to dress professionally, the same as they would for a job interview at a professional company. English language skills are necessary. The mock interview is conducted in English. 

Impact: Volunteers make difference in a student's life in the following ways:

1. Helping South LA Youth gain effective communication skills.

2. Developing a future workforce that meets industry needs.

3. Give South LA youth a professional perspective that is outside the context of the youth's worldview.
