What: Provide pampering via masks, manicures, and pedicures to recently homeless women.
Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women & Children provides care from homelessness to self-sufficiency for women and their children. The residents are adult women, many whom have only recently gained ownership of decent footwear, much less experienced the luxury of a foot soak. The women really enjoy this get-together because it allows them to socialize.
Volunteer Project: Once a month, L.A. Works volunteers come to Women's Village to support these women's journey with a little pampering and companionship with basic face masks, hand scrubs, manicures, pedicures, and hand massages. Sometimes there's also karaoke and snacks.
You don't have to be experts at these services. This experience is more about bonding with the women, listening to them, and sharing quality time.
Special note: If you or your volunteer group are licensed hair stylists, estheticians, cosmetologists, or other skilled beauty industry professionals, your presence is a special treat. Please email the opportunity coordinator so we can be sure we best utilize your generosity.
Donations: Donations of materials are always welcome but certainly not mandatory. We go through a lot of items! If you're ever willing to bring any of the following, we'd be incredibly grateful:
- nail polish remover
- cotton balls
- epsom salts
- face sheet masks
- gloves for hygiene
Accessibility: L.A. Works firmly believes that we strengthen the social fabric of our community by involving all in service. If you feel you need accommodations to participate in this project please email us at email@example.com.
