Be a TeleSocial Volunteer (for Volunteers 55+)
Quick Overview: A social phone call twice a week to help isolated members of our community.
Impact: In response to the COVID19 crisis, L.A. Works has launched a TeleSocial Program to help keep social distancing from becoming social isolation for vulnerable homebound individuals who are at highest risk for both the coronavirus and the resulting loneliness from self-quarantine.
Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: You will be paired with at least one call recipient who you will place a friendly call every three days to check in, listen, and just chat. It will be up to you and your recipient to determine how long your conversations will be. The calls will be strictly social - meaning they will be about common interests, hobbies, and the ongoing crisis - with any problems that may arise, you will be directed to refer to an L.A. Works staff member. Each volunteer caller will receive training from L.A. Works staff before calls are to begin.
Requirements: Volunteers must pass a training before being matched. Volunteers must agree not to share advice of any kind during the call. Volunteers must agree to make these social calls twice a week.
