⚙ LEND A HAND: Become a PenPal to Kids and Families in Shelters
WHAT: Help combat social isolation by exchanging handwritten letters with families at LAFH!
ABOUT LAFH: L.A. Family Housing is a non-profit that assists individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness. These particular letter recipients are children and their guardians living in temporary, transitional shelters.
VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES: Volunteers will be paired with LAFH residents and exchange friendly letters to stay connected while social distancing. You are encouraged to keep the letters lighthearted and encouraging.
IMPACT: The effects of social isolation can include anxiety, depression, and even cognitive decline, heart trouble, and increased likelihood of stroke. Your connection will help battle these very real effects.
SPECIAL NOTES: All letters will be read and re-sent by Project Leaders in order to:
- ensure appropriate interaction
- protect your mailing address.
For this reason, we ask you to include an additional, blank stamped envelope in the letter you mail.
