Virtual Volunteer: Food Rescue Photo-Sharing

Location: Los Angeles CA, 90028

Date: 5/4/2020 Spots Remaining: 2000

Description

Quick Overview: Volunteers will submit quality photos (include captions or stories) of food rescues or food distribution events within their community. FoodCycle wants to acknowledge those that are helping to reduce food waste.

Mission or Broader Program Description: FoodCycle is building an infrastructure to reduce waste and intelligently route surplus food—whether it’s to people’s plates or composting. Through our efforts, we’re changing individual behaviors, and ultimately, we'll change the culture around food waste.

Impact: FoodCycle is growing at a fast pace. In 2019, we increased our food recovery efforts by 500 percent. Our focusing is getting more food to central parts of Los Angeles. Particularly, we are looking to recover produce, which is the top inaccessible food group in Los Angeles. We’ve heard the cry from community members that there isn’t enough nutrient dense foods available to students, low-income, and fixed-income families and individuals.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: FoodCycle's Photo-share project, is a virtual volunteer opportunity for anyone who loves to take photos, engage community members, and fight hunger. Please include a caption or story, along with photos. Volunteers will submit content to: content@foodcyclela.org.

Requirements: FoodCycle will NOT accept any lewd or explicit content. Volunteers must not exploit those in need for a photo-opportunity. Please ask before taking photos of strangers. FoodCycle does not discriminate based on color, creed, gender, or status. We will post photos that are of quality and good taste. Photos, captions, and stories, may be edited prior to posting on IG, FB, and in our monthly newsletter.
