Food Distribution **URGENT**
Our Saviour Center’s Food Pantry was founded in 1985 and today distributes over 227 tons of food to the food insecure in the San Gabriel Valley. All persons facing food insecurity are welcome at Our Saviour Center. At least (2) bags of food are given per household, once a week. Food is intended to be taken off-site and consumed elsewhere. This is a food pantry, not a food kitchen.
- Small food bank needs volunteers.
- Be a part of a team of only 25 volunteers who make a difference every Tuesday and Thursday.
- See the human side of a food pantry!
- Your volunteer participation makes a difference!
- Volunteers will be contributing to those families and individuals that are in need of food during this time of crisis with Covid-19
Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities:
- Social Distancing Monitors – Bilingual Spanish or Mandarin or Korean or Vietnamese preferred. Position requires monitoring and enforcing the 6’ social distancing formation of clients as they wait in line for their food distribution. These positions are outside.
- Parking Lot Monitors – Direct Food Pantry clients who are arriving and departing via car. These positions are outside.
- Front of House Check-in – Again, bilingual Spanish or Mandarin or Korean or Vietnamese preferred. Position verifies client ID and notates client’s visit to the Food Pantry on that specific day.
- Back of House Fulfillment and Distribution – Ability to fill and lift 10-20 pound bags of food for distribution to clients.
- Food Bag Distribution – Ability to carry (2) 20-pound bags of food to clients who are waiting in their cars. This is a new process added due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Be available 9am to 1:30pm
- Food Pantry Distribution Schedule: Tuesdays, 10:00 – 1:00 and Thursdays, 10:00 – 1:00
- We are exploring a drive through distribution that should begin as of April 14
Volunteers need to be at least 18 years old and because of COVID-19, we prefer volunteers be younger than 50 (for the protection of the volunteer).
Food Pantry Distribution Schedule:
Tuesdays, 10:00am – 1:00pm
Thursdays, 10:00am – 1:00pm
All volunteers will be given gloves and face masks as personal protection equipment. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing. In the event of rain, volunteers need to wear rain gear and bring their own umbrella, as they may have a volunteer activity that requires them to stand outside. With this said, we will do our best to station first-time volunteers inside.
Additional Details: Parking on lot is available.
Accessibility: Bilingual volunteers is a plus.
