SPEAK! Leadership Academy Coach- Virtual (college students only)
Quick Overview: We are looking for leadership coaches who can train high school students in leading conversations about social issues.
Organization Name: Novelly
Organization Website: www.novelly.org
Mission: Novelly is an ed-tech nonprofit creating youth-driven spaces, both online and offline, for courageous conversations. We are combining the power of mobile app technology and stories to empower youth to speak about issues in ways that are uplifting and energizing, rather than polarizing and hostile. And our movement is only growing. From Clearwater, Florida, to McAllen, Texas to Toronto, Canada, Novelly teenagers are starting courageous conversations about everything from climate change to immigration reform to Black Lives Matter.
What is an SLA Coach? An SLA coach is a college student who trains future Novelly chapter leaders to have conversations with their peers about social issues that are challenging but important to discuss, such as climate change, police brutality and rape culture. They host online calls, where high school students practice navigating those conversations with each other and under their guidance.
What are the responsibilities of a SLA Coach? Each SLA Coach is assigned a group of 5-6 high school students each semester and are responsible for these tasks:
- Attend (Virtual) Orientation (Week 1)
- Facilitate The Program (Weeks 2-7)
- Facilitate 6 calls with your group of students
- Monitor and grade their assignments on Google Classroom
- Evaluate Your Students (Week 8)
What is the commitment? An SLA Coach is expected to commit 3-5 hours per week for 8 weeks for at least 1 semester (fall, spring and/or summer).
To apply, send a resume and cover letter to becky@novelly.org.
