WHAT: Provide tutoring and homework assistance to recently homeless children at LA Family Housing.

ABOUT LA FAMILY HOUSING:  LA Family Housing helps people transition out of homelessness and poverty by providing housing with supportive services.  This location houses families who are transitioning out of homelessness in motel-style apartments.

VOLUNTEER PROJECT:  Every Friday for the remainder of the school year, LAFH is offering academic help to the kids in their transitional shelter. By providing one-on-one in person tutoring and homework support, you will help these children stay on track academically despite the large transitions they're undergoing.

IMPACT:  Last year, LAFH helped put 11,000+ people on the path to permanent housing; many of whom are children. No child’s access to education should be jeopardized due to their housing status. You'll provide critical supplemental academic support to ensure that children in these highly vulnerable families have the tools they need for academic success.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:  

• 18 years and older.
• volunteers who can commit to several sessions are extra valuable and establish stronger relationships with the kids
• This is an in-person opportunity that will be hosted outside.
• Mask wearing will be required at all times.

Since residents are adjusting from homelessness and/or mental illness, some good practices are:

• to provide a listening ear instead of advice
• to respect their privacy by refraining from photos
• have a good time!
