Mission or Broader Program Description: AmeriCorps Los Angeles members serve with local partners to expand access to education. Their primary approach is to offer small-group and 1-on-1 instruction. Members serve in crowded classrooms and community centers. AmeriCorps Los Angeles members serve full time for one-year terms.
This project is part of RSVP at L.A. Works' Adult Education and Employment initiative. We are organizing a series of volunteer-led workshops with various nonprofit partners like AmeriCorps Los Angeles to prepare young adults for new jobs and opportunities that will lead to a fulfilling career. Topics include networking, interview skills, resume, cover letter writing, financial literacy and more.
Impact: Your choice to volunteer with AmeriCorps Los Angeles is to support young adults in the community who want to make better lives for themselves and be productive citizens in their community. Any experience you have as a professional yourself is invaluable to the youth. If you've ever had a job, you can help someone else make their way through the start of their careers!
Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: As a volunteer, you will contribute to the whole group conversation, as a Project Leader facilitates the topic. You may need to provide timely feedback online (depending on the topic) and work in small groups with youth through online video conference.
Requirements: Volunteers must:
-Be age 55 or older to participate in RSVP events such as this
-Have their own Zoom account (free)
-Have technology capabilities such as: internet, video camera on computer, computer access
-Fill out agreement before workshop
