Quick Overview: Volunteers prepare groceries to clients in need that will either be picked up by them or delivered to their homes.

Mission: Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles is a multi-service agency whose goals are to strengthen and preserve individual, family and community life by providing a wide range of needed human services to people in the community at every stage of the life cycle, especially those who are poor and disadvantaged.
 

Impact: We rely heavily on volunteers at SOVA in order to meet the increased demand of food insecurity in the community at this time for seniors, those experiencing homelessness and families. 

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities:  At SOVA in Van Nuys, volunteer shifts are Sunday – Thursday mornings. Mondays -Thursdays are the biggest need. Volunteers assist with a variety of tasks such as: packing food bags, restocking and passing out food to clients.

** Ideally, we prefer if volunteers could select a day they can consistently volunteer  for the entire month (longer if possible).  (For example every Tuesday morning for the next month.) This consistency is most helpful to the staff and program, if possible.

Requirements: Must be at least 16 years old and stay for the entire duration. Those under 18 must have the permission of a parent or guardian. For safety, your temperature will be taken upon arrival. A mask and gloves must be worn during your shift and can be provided. 

Covid-19 Precautions: There is a sign-in system for all staff and volunteers to use as they enter the facility. The purpose of this is to help to improve the safety of all JFS sites. Instructions on what to do will be posted at SOVA and the staff on site will help you if needed. Temperature will be taken upon arrival, masks and gloves will be worn by staff and volunteers (and can be provided on-site) and social distancing will be practiced by all in the warehouse. For clients picking up food in their car, groceries will be placed in the trunk by the volunteer. 

Additional Details: Monday - Thursday shifts run from 8:30am–1:30pm and on Sunday from 8:30 am-12:30 pm. Volunteers must stay for the entire duration.

***Please note that we are unable to fulfill court ordered community service or court mandated hours. This includes any volunteer hours that need to be completed related to the legal system.*******
