School Beautification Project Leader (MLK Day)
We can't make this day happen without our leaders! Oversee a group of 10-20 volunteers and teach them how to complete the project, ensure their safety, and guide them through their volunteer experience as an MLK Jr. Day 2022 Project Leader.
Event Description: On January 17, 2022, hundreds of volunteers will roll up their sleeves and paint, plant, landscape and build as they work together to revitalize a school in South LA.
Requirements: Project Leaders must attend a quick 2-hour training to learn how to do their project the Thursday evening or Saturday morning prior MLK Day.
Teams/Groups: Project Leaders are assigned to different groups, so teams of Project Leaders will not work together. Although you will train with other Project Leaders and all be at the same site on MLK day, you will be assigned to lead separate groups.
Why: MLK Day of Service is a defining moment each year when Americans across the country step up to make our communities more equitable and take action. Dr. King believed that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” as he fought for systemic change. His example is our call to action. Additional benefits include:
- Be part of putting together Los Angeles' largest day of service
- Proof of service hours can be provided
- Event organizing experience
Dress Code: Everyone attending must wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth at all times. As you will be working with items that may get your clothes dirty, please dress casually, with closed-toed shoes. Please also remember to wear sunscreen and a hat.
Vaccinations: Proof of vaccination will be required for this event.
Accessibility: L.A. Works firmly believes that we strengthen the social fabric of our community by involving all in service. If you feel you need accommodations to participate in this project please email us at email@example.com.
Location: You will be emailed the address on where to go to participate as we get closer to the date of the event. MLK Day of Service: This is a part of L.A. Works’ MLK Jr. Day of Service 2022 event to honor Dr. King’s life and legacy through service. The day-long event builds upon the anti-racism movement through an interactive March on Washington in Minecraft and virtual projects focused on tutoring, career readiness, and teacher appreciation.
