Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) is a facility of the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Founded and opened in 1954, its mission is to promote, interpret, and present the art of emerging, mid career, and established artists from culturally diverse Southern California. Program Description: As part of the Getty's Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA initiative, Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery presents Condemned To Be Modern, an art exhibition that brings together the work of 21 contemporary artists who have responded critically to the history of modernist architecture in Latin America. Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA is a far-reaching and ambitious exploration of Latin American and Latino art in dialogue with Los Angeles. Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities: Gallery Facilitators are people-focused volunteers who engage with our visitors and improve their experience by providing appropriate information on the exhibition on view in LAMAG. Facilitators also help to maintain the Gallery throughout the day, but their primary focus is on helping visitors by answering questions and providing information. Time Commitment: One day minimum, 3-4 hours per day (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday) Requirements: Gallery Facilitators will receive a handout of information on the exhibition and tour by the Curatorial staff. Gallery Facilitators must wear all black or dark clothing when present at the exhibition. Volunteers need 6 months to 1 year of experience in Art, Culture, Recreations & Sports. Benefits: Being a volunteer at LAMAG is a great way to learn about contemporary art, meet people with similar interests, and share your knowledge with visitors. Volunteers are a vital and valued part of the LAMAG team. *This project is created, organized and managed by our nonprofit partner.
